Halstead Volume

It gauges complexity by tallying up the operators and operands in your code, essentially estimating the mental effort required to understand a function.
Operators: +, -, :=, AND, OR, Get(), Insert()
Operands: variables, constants, field names
A high Halstead Volume means your brain has to work harder to make sense of the code, in other terms, it often signals a maintenance headache.

The Problems
➡️ Cryptic variable names (SL, I, C, Inv)
➡️ Multiple inline calculations
➡️ Complex conditional logic
➡️ Hard to understand what is happening

The Fix
✅ Use descriptive names as opposed to abbreviations
✅ Extract complex expressions and break down all complex conditions.
✅ Avoid appearance of magic numbers in code

Quick self check as a developer, ask yourself
☑️ Can I explain this line in one sentence?
☑️ Are my variable names clear without comments?
☑️ Would I understand this code in 6 months?
☑️ Could a junior developer follow this logic?

The Bottom line
Code is not just for computers to execute. It is for humans to understand, maintain, and modify. Halstead Volume reminds us that clarity is a feature, not a luxury. Use meaningful names. Break down complex logic. Make your code read like a story. Your future self will thank you. Your team will thank you. Your code reviewers will thank you.
